Supercrud
Got some locomotives that don't run well? Not worth the trouble to fix? Turn them into
background models on a RIP track. This old Bachmann Docksider gets far more attention as a static model
than it ever did as a runner. As a bonus, with the motor removed, I was able to add a rudimentary boiler
backhead and a few other simple cab details to further enhance its appearance. It then received about
three or four rounds of "treatment" before it acquired the degree of age I was after.
Supercrud can also hide a multitude of sins, and make an average model look better than it would
ordinarily—bad paint jobs are gone, oversized parts almost disappear into the rust, and the surface
texture adds a new dimension of detail. Surround a model like this with piles of loose junk, and it becomes
"superdetailed" with almost no effort.
