The White River and Northern in the round

This undated photo shows a rare view of the layout in situ in my bedroom, with my workbench to the left and some storage cabinets in the background. Judging from the amount of completed scenery (particularly the large stands of deciduous trees to the left and right of the charcoal factory), I'd say this is probably the last existing photo ever taken. Also, by this time I had replaced all of the rolling stock from my Postage Stamp train set with scratch-built models, plus a bashed Shay. The enlargement below highlights the telltale items indicating the vintage of the photo. Not seen in the image is an old-time passenger car from Arnold Rapido, which rounded out the entire roster.

Image analysis

Image specs: This black and white Polaroid did not receive the special protective coating that had to be applied to prevent scratching and fading. Thirty-odd years later, when it was finally scanned, the poor thing had become so deteriorated that I didn't even want to attempt digital restoration. So, here it is, warts and all. At least I had by then obtained a flood lamp so I could get some decent light into the scene.
