A campfire beside the fireflies
Seen here in the midst of being completed are the campfire and firefly lighting effects
scenes. To the right, the campfire was made from thick fiber optic material carved into flame shapes
and surrounded by stumpy fibers for coals. The brown area to the upper left is the field of fireflies.
Fiber optics were painted dark green and inserted into a sheet of foam carpet padding. Looking like the
stems of brambles, these fibers were then covered with ground foam webbing to finish the field. The effect
of both the campfire and the fireflies was actually better than I had expected.
